Suffocation – Effigy of the Forgotten

Suffocation
Effigy of the Forgotten
Roadrunner

Effigy of the Forgotten is the heaviest album ever made. Suffocation perfected USDM. It turns out that the missing ingredient was those NYHC breakdowns. Check out the breakdown in “Liege of Inveracity.” That’s the shit. Suffocation is one of death metal’s greats for a reason. Suffocation is the only band that could (or did) take a six-year-long break and then not only pick up where they left off, but exceed their already beloved status.

The unique Suffocation blastbeat is the frequently-plagiarized source of most of this deathcore crap. Not only was Suffocation getting ripped off 15 years ago, they still are. That alone should qualify a band as legends. Fortunately, Suffocation can play their collective ass off. This is the original line-up with Mike Smith behind the drums. Effigy of the Forgotten is one of those must-have metal albums like Reign in Blood or Slaughter of the Soul. Seriously, it’s that brutal. 19 million thumbs up; super-recommended.
