III
At A Loss
On III, Unpersons find themselves in a weird position. Unpersons is consciously trying NOT to sound like Mastodon; a popular band that was heavily inspired by the Unpersons II album. This results in a band questioning its identity.
III is still firmly entrenched in the Savannah/SCaD sound but it's also crawling with the stain of DC hardcore from the early 2000s (Malady, Pg99, City of Catepillar, etc...). This record is closer to an un-heavy Isis than any of Unpersons' past material. The song "Temple of Defeated Sweat" kind of sounds like the old stuff. While III is a solid record, I still prefer II.
