Phobia – Means of Existence

Phobia
Means of Existence
Slap-a-Ham/Deep Six

March almost ended without this month’s dose of Phobia. To make up for that oversight, here’s the masterpiece from these SoCal grind terrorists. Means of Existence is beginning-to-end tough. On this record, Phobia incorporates samples into the songs in addition to using samples as bumpers between songs; which I love. It’s one of the best grind albums ever made. That phrase gets thrown around so much, but it’s actually true here. If you were to rank every grind album ever made, Means of Existence is in the top five.

Record collectors should probably skip this paragraph. I had the original, Slap-a-Ham pressing of this CD but I lost the case once-upon-a-time while moving. The Slap-a-Ham CD is a $100+ eBay item; for the CD! The original LP is so expensive, only the five richest kings of Europe can afford a copy. I still have the actual CD. In fact, the original CD was the one that got ripped to the site. In spite of this loss, everything worked out. A few years later, I snapped up the picture disc reissue on Deep Six Records at the mighty Vinyl Edge Records in Houston. I love this album and you will too.

Phobia - 22 Acts of Random Violence

Phobia
22 Acts of Random Violence
Willowtip/Deep Six

It's a new month, so it's time for a new Phobia record. How about the newest Phobia record? It's the same old Phobia that we know and love, except that Leon Del Muerte left after this record came out. Shane and Steve are still pissed and, don't look now, but consecutive records have been released by the same labels. Will wonders never cease.

There's less of a Japanese/SOB influence on this album when compared to past material. It may be more of a straight-ahead record, but 22 Acts of Random Violence hits just as hard as classics like Means of Existence. This is recommended for returning/repeat No Funeral readers. You guys know the drill. More Phobia is on the way. Stay tuned.

Phobia – Destroying the Masses

Phobia
Destroying the Masses
Pessimiser

If you’ve been reading No Funeral since the print issue days, then you’re probably already familiar with Phobia. They're one of my favorites and they’ve been covered here extensively in the past. Destroying the Masses, released on the late, great Pessimiser records, brings us more of Phobia’s patented, super-fast, lockdown So Cal grind. Phobia is the U.S. Napalm Death, right down to the brutal vocalist and bassist; both of whom will beat you. Grind your fucking head in!
